Operations Manager

Location: Greensboro, North Carolina (with oversight of multi-site Southeast operations)
Reports To: Owner / President / General Manager
Travel: Regular travel to current and future Southeast locations.

Position Summary

The Operations Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient, and profitable execution of all production and yard activities across JMS Rebar’s fabrication and cage assembly operations. This role oversees day-to-day plant operations, logistics, workforce management, quality control, and continuous improvement while supporting the company’s expansion from two locations to three or more facilities across the Southeast.

The ideal candidate combines strong industrial leadership with hands-on knowledge of reinforcing steel fabrication, construction supply chains, and multi-site operational scaling.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Production

  • Direct daily fabrication, bending, cutting, and cage assembly operations
  • Ensure production schedules meet customer delivery commitments and project timelines
  • Optimize throughput, labor utilization, and equipment performance
  • Coordinate inter-plant workload balancing across locations
  • Implement lean manufacturing and process improvements
  • Maintain yard organization, inventory accuracy, and material flow

Safety & Compliance

  • Lead a zero-incident safety culture across all sites
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and applicable state regulations
  • Conduct regular safety audits, training, and incident reviews
  • Maintain safe equipment operation and facility conditions

Quality Assurance

  • Ensure fabricated products meet drawings, specifications, and customer requirements
  • Implement quality control procedures and documentation
  • Address production errors, rework, and customer issues promptly

Logistics & Delivery

  • Oversee shipping, receiving, fleet coordination, and route planning
  • Ensure on-time deliveries to jobsites and customers
  • Manage relationships with trucking partners and vendors

People Leadership

  • Hire, train, and supervise plant managers, supervisors, and yard personnel
  • Establish performance expectations and accountability systems
  • Develop future leaders to support expansion
  • Foster a high-performance, team-oriented culture

Financial Performance

  • Manage operational budgets, labor costs, and productivity targets
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities without sacrificing quality or safety
  • Support estimating and project management with production input

Growth & Expansion

  • Support site selection, startup, and integration of new locations
  • Standardize processes, systems, and reporting across facilities
  • Lead operational readiness for scaling to three or four plants
  • Evaluate equipment needs and capital investments

Required Qualifications

  • 7–10+ years of operations leadership in manufacturing, steel fabrication, construction supply, or related industry
  • Demonstrated experience managing supervisors and hourly production teams
  • Multi-site management experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of production scheduling, logistics, and inventory control
  • Proven safety leadership and regulatory compliance experience
  • Ability to read construction drawings and specifications (rebar experience strongly preferred)
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in reinforcing steel fabrication or structural steel
  • Background in construction materials distribution
  • Lean / Six Sigma training or continuous improvement experience
  • Experience launching or scaling new facilities

Physical & Work Environment
